To
our customers:
This letter is to notify you that your company may be
required, under the Department of Transportation’s Hazardous
Materials Registration Program, to register as a shipper of
hazardous materials. This
program, established in 1992, was expanded this year to
include many companies which were previously exempt.
Under the new requirements, if your company makes one
or more shipments of hazardous materials requiring placards,
you must register with DOT. For most hazard classes, the
threshold for placarding is 1000 pounds. For example, if you
ship three drums of flammable or corrosive wastes, you must
complete the DOT’s registration form and return it with a
fee of either $300 or $2000.
The amount of the fee is based on whether or not you
meet the definition of a small business, according to the
Small Business Administration.
This registration is an annual requirement. For
2000-01, the deadline for submission is June 30, 2000, or your
next placarded shipment.
You can obtain the registration form with background
information by any of the following means:
Please contact me if you have any questions about this
requirement. We
appreciate your business, and look forward to continuing to
provide the most cost-effective and environmentally sound
disposition of your waste materials.
